There were mixed feelings for the Tottenham boys out on loan this weekend.
Starting in England, promising 21-year-old goalkeeper Luke McGee was unable to prevent his Peterborough United side slipping to a 2-0 loss away at Fleetwood Town yesterday. The Posh were without top goalscorer Marcus Maddison, who had dropped out through illness just 30 minutes before the game.
McGee did make one outstanding save, tipping over a 20-yard free-kick from Fleetwood’s David Ball.
Fellow loanee Nathan Oduwa made his 5th appearance of the season for Peterborough too, although he was limited to yet another 15 minute cameo. All of his appearances this season have come from the bench.
Will Miller saw a little more success as he played 60 minutes for Burton Albion as they drew 0-0 at Wigan Athletic’s DW Stadium. Miller has been deployed as a striker in his time at promoted Albion, but was pulled off in place of Jamie Ward just short of the hour mark. They travel to Ipswich on Tuesday night.
Moving abroad, Argentinian centre-half Federico Fazio kept the likes of Lorenzo Insigne and Jose Callejon at bay for the majority of Roma’s 3-1 win over Napoli. Former Man City striker Edin Dzeko struck twice as Fazio completed the 90 in Serie A.
Nabil Bentaleb took the headlines for the right reasons this week, as he fired home a stunning 25-yard strike as Schalke drew 1-1 with Augsburg in the Bundesliga. Bentaleb came under fire for his comments regarding British – and so Spurs – fans last week, but it was his left-footed pearler that turned heads this time.
Bentaleb has now contributed goal and an assist in his last two games, having completed the 90 minutes in Schalke’s last 8 fixtures.
Felipe Lesniak went unused for Slovan Liberec as they drew 0-0 away at Dukla Praha to remain just one place above the Czech Liga relegation zone.
Clinton N’Jie‘s Marseille take on Metz at home in Ligue 1 tonight, however the Frenchman is expected to sit out again due to a hip injury.
